Do not reserve your use of sunscreen for sunny days or outdoors. Standard glass windows can block UVB but not UVA which penetrate deeper into skin. It is main contributing factor for aging- dark spots, wrinkles and uneven skin texture.
There are three types of damaging sun rays: UVA, UVB, and blue light. UVB has a shorter wavelength and is responsible for surface damage of the skin, causing immediate signs of skin damage and sunburns.
UVA light, also known as long-wave light, accounts for about 95% of the UV light that reaches our skin. They are more of a threat because a much larger percentage of them reach earth's surface compared to UVB.
UVB are responsible for producing sunburn. Its rays also play the greatest role in causing skin cancers, including the deadly black mole form of skin cancer (malignant melanoma). They don’t penetrate windows, and are more likely to be filtered by clouds.
Blue light comes from the sun, but it is also prominent in smartphones, computers etc. that we are exposed to on a regular basis. Due to the nature of its short wavelength and high energy levels, it has the ability to penetrate past the dermis, deeper than UVA and UVB rays.
Ensure you are wearing at least broad spectrum of SPF30. Even so, layering it every 2-3 hours is required. *I am guilty for this because I do not layer when I am out fearing it will block my pores with dirt and perspiration because of our humid weather.
